Wonders of Robbers Cave with Pictures
Robbers Cave is a state park that’s located in the scenic, hilly woodlands of the Sans Bois Mountains of southeast Oklahoma. Formerly known as Latimer State Park, it received its present name in 1936. The park is a favorite of strollers, equestrians, hikers and outdoor lovers. It covers more than 8000 acres of land together with the adjoining wildlife management area. The park has three lakes that are perfect for trout fishing during season time and a pleasant boating experience. Other activities include hunting, mountain biking, trails for hikers and horses, sandstone cliffs for climbing and rappelling, and fall foliage viewing leaving visitors with plenty to look forward to.

History of Robbers Park:
The surrounding area of the park used to be a hunting ground thousands of years ago. The earliest inhabitants were people related to the builders of the Spiro Mounds. Outlaws were sheltered here after the Civil War, most notably Jesse James and Belle Starr.

For nature lovers, Roberts Cave is an excellent hangout to get up, close and personal with the natural world. Its picturesque beauty is a perfect setting to relax the body, mind and soul and to soak in all that nature has to offer. One can learn a lot about the trees and birds and butterflies with time spent at the park.

Robber Caves Lake:
Three lakes encompass the Park – Lake Carlton, Lake Wayne Wallace and Coon Creek Lake, which were created by dams built on a creek. Lake Carlton pictured in the image below, offers boating and canoe rental facilities.
Robbers Cave Fall Festival:
The first annual Roberts Cave Fall Festival was instituted in 1987. Spanning over three days, the annual festival features handmade arts and craft by more than 200 arts and crafts vendors, stalls with delicious food and drinks and carnival rides and games. The festival also features the Fall Foliage Cruise on a Saturday where hundreds of customized and restored classic cars are on display. It is a fun-packed day for adults and children alike.
