PUMA Tropicalia Pack Trainers

PUMA Tropicalia Pack

Puma is hoping the relaunch of several retro styles will revive demand for the brand’s once-famous running technology. The sportswear firm recently unveiled its Tropicalia pack, containing two new additions to its footwear catalogue. Updated versions of the Trinomic XT2+ and R698 trainer have been designed to bring back one of the firm’s most popular innovations, which became famous in the early nineties. Through pioneering use of clear honeycomb hexagonal cells, the Trinomic line was able to perfect cushioning and flexibility in the brand’s shoes at the time. Just over twenty years on, Puma’s latest crop is attempting to rekindle that reputation by launching two special edition takes on the 1992 classics. The new XT2+ and R698 maintain the trainer’s original construction, with designers opting instead to bring the look up to date. The models feature premium soft nubuck and heavy canvas materials, with a laser-perforated toe box also appearing on the R698. In an attempt to modernise the style, Puma has applied graphics to the trainer’s inner. Both carry motifs of Brazil’s national flower, the ipê-amarelo, as part of brand’s tropical theme. The uppers of the two colour ways – black and khaki – are also accented with the bright tones, particularly around the lining. Puma’s revitalisation of the Trinomic line is part of its ‘Cream’ programme, which pushes for retro-modernisation, giving designers creative licence to revisit the brand’s archive. The Tropicalia pack will be available online at Hanon, End and Footpatrol from April 12th. Retail price starts at £80 for the R698 and £90 for the XT2+.
