Olivier Jonathan Giroud is a French professional footballer. He plays as an attacker for Chelsea FC in the Premier League and for the France National Team. Giroud is France’s third-highest goal scorer and played a key part in taking them to victory at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Like many footballers, Giroud also has tattoos on his body but the ones that he has, are tied to his faith. Let us take a look at his inks and the meanings behind them.

1. ‘Tribal and Cross’ Tattoo

Tattoo: The left arm of the footballer, particularly the area around his elbow and bicep is covered in a large tribal tattoo design inspired by Maori designs. There is also a large cross tattooed on the backside of his upper left arm, blended into his tribal ink.

Meaning: The various little designs on his tribal tattoo represent love, family, faith, and health. The cross tattoo on his arm is a representation of his faith and religious views. Giroud feels blessed by God and also celebrates his goals with his fingers pointing upwards as a tribute to the almighty.

2. Quote Tattoo

Tattoo: The inner side of Giroud’s right forearm contains a quote tattooed on it. The quote is, “Dominus Regit me et Nihil Mihi Deerit”

Meaning: The quote on his arm is another one of the tattoos that represent his faith. The quote is the first line from Psalm 23, tattooed on his arm in Latin. The quote translates to, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want”. While talking about the world cup victory and the tattoo, he said, “Every time I read the word of the Holy Bible it makes me feel grateful about everything that has happened to me. And positive. Because so many bad things happen in the world.”

Tattoo: The side of his right leg contains a tribal design tattooed on it.
