It’s no surprise that 2021’s craziest film release will star Nic Cage. But no, it’s not about the kidnapping of a truffle-hunting pig.
The first trailer for Prisoners of the Ghostland has just been released. According to the film’s IMDB page, “A notorious criminal must break an evil curse in order to rescue an abducted girl who has mysteriously disappeared.”
Cage plays a dude in a booby trapped leather jumpsuit that has to find the girl and bring her back to Colonel Sanders within five days, or he goes boom.
And to be fair, that’s the part of Prisoners of the Ghostland that makes sense. To say it looks completely unhinged would be doing the trailer a disservice.
Prisoners of the Ghostland, directed by infamous Japanese auteur Sion Sono, shows off a dazzling mix of feudal Japanese themes mixed in with a contemporary hellscape.
Joining Cage on this wild ride is Sofia Boutella (The Mummy), director Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook), and genre legend Bill Mosley (The Devil’s Rejects).
Needless to say, I’m really looking forward to Prisoners of the Ghostland!
