The New Dover Street Market Is Even Better Than The Original

Fancy a new wardrobe? Get thee to the new Dover Street Market, which has opened on the Haymarket, with five floors dedicated to the best of fashion, art and design. Like the original DSM, this location is designed by Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garçons. While the interior is all Kawakubo, she chose to maintain its original, turn-of-the-century facade. So aside from Kawakubo’s contributions, inside you’ll find lighting installations, audio presentations and unique, dedicated spaces designed by a variety of artists, all rubbing up alongside the building’s original century-old architecture. As with the brand’s other retail spaces, its buy stars the most sought-after and innovative brands on earth. Just some of those on the rails include: The Row, Gucci, Raf Simons, Rick Owens, Dior, Paul Smith and Burberry, as well as seven Comme des Garçons lines. There’s also an event space, bakery, luncheon kiosk and gallery spaces, when you need a break from fashion. “I want to create a kind of market where various creators from various fields gather together and encounter each other in an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos; the mixing up and coming together of different kindred souls who all share a strong personal vision,” says Kawakubo. With so much to see and buy, it’s easy to kill a whole day here. Just to be on the safe side, you might as well clear your whole schedule. The new Dover Street Market is located at 18-22 Haymarket, London, SW1Y 4DG.
