The entertainment in Miami ranges anywhere from performing arts, to festivals. Art museums and history museums, music, sports, and even the cuisine in Miami is very much different than other parts of America. Because the Caribbean Islands are close to Miami, the culture is heavily influenced on the larger population of Cubans. There are many museums in Miami that are popular for those interested in the history and art side of the city. Some of these museums include the Frost Art Museum, Frost Museum of Science, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, along with many children museums as well.

Miami is home to Florida’s largest performing arts center, the Adrienne Arsht Center. This art center is located in downtown Miami and is even one of the largest centers in America. This art center puts on over 400 performances each year and has attracted around 450,000 people to the center core of Miami. Not only does this center put on performances attracting people from all over the world, they also have programs for those interested in becoming part of the arts. Its main goal is to make the arts as accessible to as many people as possible.

The cuisine of Miami is mainly influenced by the Caribbean and the Cubans who migrated there during the 1960’s, bringing with them their very own delicacies. Cuban sandwiches, espresso, and croquettes are examples of the Cuban foods that you may see in Miami. Miami is located near the water and a river runs through the city. Because of this, Miami has a large range of seafood restaurants full of fresh creatures of the Atlantic Ocean.

Miami Climate

Miami has what is called a tropical monsoon climate. This tropical monsoon climate basically means that Miami has wet and dry seasons. During the wet seasons is the time when the most rainfall occurs. The wet season is determined on a month where the average precipitation is 60 millimeters or more. The dry season however is during the time of year the least amount of rainfall is recorded. This dry season normally has low humidity, so low that some rivers and watering holes dry up due to the lack of precipitation. The wet seasons in Miami usually last from May to October and during this time the temperatures are around the 80’s to 90’s but with the wetness brings high humidity with it. Because of Miami’s location, there is also a hurricane season. This hurricane season lasts from the beginning of June to the end of November. During this time frame is the most likely that the city will experience harsh weather conditions with the chance of a hurricane coming off the coast. Recently it has been found that Miami is at the verge of sinking. Precautions have been made but due to the global warming and the city being situated right next to the ocean. Miami beach has said to have increased its flooding rate by nearly 400 percent in the last decade alone. Water pumps, levees, and other drainage systems have been set up around the city, although this is just a temporary relief.
