Live Like a Rock Star in Pete Townshend's $21 Million London Mansion
The Who’s Pete Townshend has decided to sell his historic London mansion, The Wick. The guitarist has owned the six-bedroom home for 25 years, but after spending the pandemic living in his estate in Oxfordshire, he and his wife have decided they prefer the fresh country air.
The Wick has a rich rock history, having previously been owned by The Rolling Stones Ronnie Wood and music industry executive Derek “Dick” Leahy, who was responsible for producing the likes of George Michael and Donna Summer.

The first high-profile owner of the house was Sir John Mills, whose family owned it in the 1950s before selling it in 1956. Mills took ownership again in 1964 before eventually selling it to Wood, who built a music studio in the basement. The Wick was home to a revolving door of music superstars while Wood lived in the four-story abode, with the likes of David Bowie, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and the other Stones members frequently dropping in and jamming with Wood.
“From the first day the studio was ready, the house was throbbing with friends 24 hours a day, all coming around to play music. George Harrison would show up with the Monty Python crew and we’d jam, and the actor John Hurt would show up, and eventually we’d all wind up in the pub,” Wood wrote in his 2003 book Ronnie: The Autobiography.
“We’d fall asleep on the studio floor and wake up to find a room full of musicians who hadn’t been there when we crashed. Gregg Allman, Paul McCartney, Keith Richard, and Ringo. We’d play music until we couldn’t play any more.”
Leahy purchased the property from Wood in 1976 before Townshend moved into the Georgian-style mansion in 1996.
