East London Label Looks To New York

Independent design label Lazy Oaf has revealed its autumn/winter 2014 lookbook, showcasing more illustrated looks for the coming season. Inspired by early nineties subcultures in New York, the colourful collection features a mix of typographic prints, cartoon illustrations and graffiti-inspired designs across t-shirts, shirts and accessories. Pieces from the hip-hop scene of the decade, including bucket hats, sports tops and oversized shirts have been paired with trousers in neutral tones and soft blue denim. However, the east London streetwear brand also references Britain with its Tinny Shirt and Beer Can T-shirt, a nod to the country’s drink culture, in a pop art style. Founded by designer Gemma Shiel, Lazy Oaf started selling screen printed t-shirts at Spitalfields Market in 2001. The brand is now stocked in over 250 stores worldwide, producing clothing as well as accessories and stationery. Its designs have led to several collaborations with the like of Warner Bros on a Looney Tunes collection, DC Comics on a Batman collection, and illustrator Jim Davis on a Garfield collection. Lazy Oaf’s AW14 range is available to buy now online and at the brand’s Soho boutique, with prices starting at £38 for t-shirts and £70 for shirts.
