Who is Kanye West?
Kanye Omari West was born on June 8, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was raised in Chicago, Illinois primarily by his mother, Dr. Donda West.
As an English professor, Dr. West was able to encourage her son’s passions for poetry, writing, and art from an early age.
While Kanye West was awarded a scholarship to Chicago’s Academy of American Art, he shortly transferred to Chicago State University to study English Literature. However, he quickly realized his academic studies were interfering with his music.
At the age of 20, West chose to drop out of college and focus on his music career.
Of course, since his mother was a professor at CSU, she was disappointed with Kanye West’s decision to abandon college. Later, she admitted it was the right choice for her son.
