Ilvermorny Fashion
The Ilvermorny school history story is up on Pottermore.
I repeat: THE ILVERMORNY SCHOOL HISTORY STORY IS UP ON POTTERMORE!! (Read it here if you haven’t already.)
Of course, I’m sure you already know that by now, because it’s all anyone has been talking about lately. Or maybe that’s just my circle of nerd friends. Oh well.
If you didn’t know, Ilvermorny is Hogwarts’ American counterpart and has a rich and fascinating history involving escapes from crazy pureblood family members, terrifying creatures that live in the forest, and a super-awesome new system of sorting. The entire story is genius, as is to be expected, and I strongly encourage you to go check it out if you haven’t already.

In the weeks ahead, I’ll be covering fashion inspired by each of the Ilvermorny houses (Wampus, Thunderbird, Pukwudgie, and Horned Serpent), but first, let’s get inspired by the Ilvermorny school colors.
Ilvermorny students, according to J.K. Rowling herself, wear robes of blue and cranberry– blue because it was founder Isolt Sayre’s favorite and also because she had wanted to be in Ravenclaw house at Hogwarts as a child, and cranberry because of co-founder James Steward’s love for cranberry pie. (No, I did not make that up.)
This all feels suspiciously like a way to incorporate shades of red, white, and blue into the American school’s color scheme, but I’ll take it.
There’s no information about what the rest of the Ilvermorny school uniform looks like, but if it’s anything like the Hogwarts uniforms, we can expect that polished private-school aesthetic we all love so dearly. Since I know not everyone likes dressing like a British private school student, however, here are some more casual ways to incorporate the Ilvermorny school colors into your everyday look!
