What better way to show your devotion to Jesus than to get the sign of the fish, or ichthys, tattooed on your body? This is a classic symbol that dates back to the early days of Christianity and serves as an excellent way to denote your devotion to the lord.

The first appearance of the ichthys symbol dates back to the 2nd century AD.

The use of the symbol was fairly popular in the late 2nd century, and it positively exploded back in the 3rd and 4th centuries. We wouldn’t be surprised if some early supporters of Jesus were among those who had pretty sweet ink of the sign of the fish.

As an interesting note, the sign of the fish was used in other nearby religions as well, usually to denote a holy status where fish was not to be eaten. Fish were forbidden to be eaten by anyone in one religion and only the priests of said religion were allowed to eat them. Despite all of this similarity, scholars argue that there’s no connection between the Christian sign of the fish and that of other religions.

It was simply a popular religious symbol of the time that was swept up by the Christians. The ichthys symbol remains an excellent tattoo to show your devotion.
