Hussein Chalayan To Relaunch Menswear Line
Designer’s First Men’s Collection In Eight Years
The menswear boom has lead one British designer to announce his return to the industry after almost a decade. Hussein Chalayan MBE will re-launch his men’s line later this year, ending an eight year hiatus. The Turkish-born designer plans to unveil an initial 22-looks as part of a spring/summer 2015 capsule collection in the coming weeks. The range, titled Moor’s Chorus, will focus on bold ethnic prints, including budding courgette flowers and details of hidden riad courtyards, according to a statement. Described as “smart-casual with a minimal feel,” light, transparent fabrics will make an appearance, as well as weaves and light jacquard patterns. Layering will be served by a mixture of blousons, jackets, trousers, shorts and shirts in a variety of textures. Speaking to WWD, the 43-year-old said: “I missed men’s wear, and this had been on the cards for a long time.” “We had a really good following, especially in the worlds of art and architecture, and our customers haven’t stopped asking about it. Some are still wearing their old clothes.” Chalayan previously designed menswear from 2002, before ending production with Italian manufacturer, Gibò. In 2007 the two-time British Designer of the Year worked on a one-off men’s project for online store Yoox, which held exclusive rights to the designs. Details of prices and stockists are yet to be released. However, Chalayan’s womenswear line is carried by e-tailer Net-A-Porter, suggesting the new line could be picked up by its menswear equivalent, Mr Porter.
