We’re not sure how many aspiring cage-fighters already exist in London’s well-to-do Chelsea or its surrounding areas, but there’s about to be a whole lot more. Russian gym chain Alex Fitness has opened its first branch in the UK. And while the space features everything you would normally expect – gym, sauna and a range of classes including yoga and pilates – it’s also fitted out with its own MMA cage. Because, you know, Russia. The white collar club, the first of plans to build a UK network in London and beyond, hopes to capitalise on the popularity (and health benefits) of fighting sports. As a result it offers specialist classes run by professional fighters across MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, fight conditioning and Muay Thai. Now we can’t say we get that in our local gym. Tiered membership ranges from £45 to £100 per month. Those with the highest tier of membership also have access to additional benefits including personal consultations by Alex Fitness’ team of experts, tailored training and nutrition plans, and detailed performance and progress analysis.
