Brutus Trimfit x Dr. Martens: Part III

Serial collaborators Brutus Trimfit and Dr. Martens have pulled together for a third consecutive season. Following on from the success of their previous lines, the cult label’s have produced a mini-collection of Brutus Trimfit shirts in iconic Dr. Marten colorways.

The SS14 styles feature classic oxblood and yellow check patterns typical of Dr. Martens boots and shoes. Sales of the two shirts also come with a four-point handkerchief in a contrast hue that taps into the traditional suedehead look. Attention to detail is a key feature of this collection. The two variations both feature a three-finger collar, double button dart vented sleeves and sewn box pleat on each shirt.

Family-owned fashion line Brutus Trimfit was founded in 1966, beginning with a single sweater. Started up by brothers Keith and Alan Freedman, the brand was revived in 2009 by Keith’s son Jonathan, selling t-shirts, knitwear and denim.

Freedman Jr spoke exclusively to FashionBeans about the partnership with Dr Martens: “The success of this collaboration has yet again surpassed all expectations. For the first few hours we were selling four shirts every minute online,” he said.

Speaking in his current role as Managing Director, Freedmen went on to add: “This just goes to further prove that Dr Martens and Brutus’s shared fan-base are some of the most switched-on, dedicated and active subcultures in existence.”

On the scene 21-years earlier than Brutus, Klaus Märtens founded Dr. Martens. A doctor in the German army, Märtens designed several improvements for the standard issue boot, including air-padded soles. The firm, which now makes a pre-tax profit of £17.9m, introduced its clothing line in 2011.
