Cubitts Eyewear: SS14 Collection
Glasses Brand Names Styles After London Roads
Home trial eyewear brand Cubitts has opted to use street names in and around King’s Cross to identify styles in its latest collection. The new seven-piece range from the London-based firm includes wide, square, oval and square shaped frames in black, dark and light turtle, and amber colour ways. Styles have been inspired by the heritage of the area where the company is based, with several elements such as exposed pins acting as an emphasis on the engineering of the district. Cubitts designs its glasses in the capital, before sourcing acetate from the Mazzuchelli factory in Italy for production in China. The frames are then crafted at the British workshop and finished with prescription lenses. Complete manufacturing time takes six weeks, stretching over fifty stages including model making, frame production, temple cutting and printing. Combining modern techniques with traditional methods, Cubitts uses 3D printing technology to test and refine each shape. The company was established in 2012 with the aim of simplifying the process of making of prescription glasses. Current images online feature male model of the moment, Bill Huxley. All eyewear is available to purchase online at cubitts.co.uk, while select pieces are available at Albam stores in Soho, Shoreditch and Islington. Prices start from £100.
