The Balcomie is the first in a series of future Kingsbarn releases that will be named after landmarks in and around Fife, where the Distillery is based.

The new single malt is named after Balcomie Castle.

“Place and heritage is hugely important to us as a company and we’re proud of where we come from, therefore, we’re naming each of our future core range releases after different landmarks in Fife – starting with Balcomie,” William Wemyss, founder and managing director of Kingsbarns Distillery, told the Spirits Business.

“Our distillery is surrounded by a magnificent landscape with a wealth of history and we wanted to capture the essence of this with Balcomie – a product we’re really excited to share.”

Balcomie is described by Kingsbarns as a fruity, light and balanced whisky bottled from ex-Oloroso American Oak Sherry Butts.

The 100% ex-oloroso American oak Sherry butts from Jerez in Spain were specifically chosen for the task of maturing the whiskey by Isabella Wemyss. It’s bottled at 46% ABV.

The nose offers treacle, sultanas, fruit loaf with cinnamon icing, a touch of dark chocolate with summer berries, while sweet tinned pineapple, orange peel, and cake spice flavors tease the palate. The finish shows off dried apricot and a hint of roasted hazelnut.

“The new addition to our range allows whisky lovers to enjoy fruity and indulgent flavors from an original bottle designed to honor our Scottish heritage,” said Wemyss.

The Balcomie is perfect for cold, autumnal evenings and is guaranteed to take whisky fans on a stunning flavor journey – we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
