Converse Tie-Dye Chuck Taylor All Stars
Converse Launches Tie-Dye Collection
Converse is hoping a sixties spin on one of its most popular models will pull in big crowds. The American brand is the latest to experiment with tie-dye, applying it to the classic Chuck Taylor All Star shoe. The new interpretation uses the colouring process to create dark base colours, infused with brighter tones in a marbling effect. As a result of the organic method of dying, no two pairs carry the same marble pattern, making each unique. Tie-dye follows the use of other bold looks released through the firm’s ‘Chuck 70’ line-up, which featured camouflage and zebra prints. Hi- and low-top styles are available in a variety of colour ways, including monochrome, red, blue, purple and green. The shoes feature canvas uppers, a vulcanized sole and rubber toe, with branding on the heel and tongue. The trainer, first produced by Converse in 1917, was originally known as the All Star basketball shoe. Four years later, a player by the name of Charles ‘Chuck’ Taylor joined a Converse-sponsored basketball team, before revising the design; leading it to be known as the Chuck Taylor All Star. To support the launch Converse has released a short film promoting the collection, which retails at £55 for hi-tops and £50 for low-tops. The full range is available is store and online now.
