YMC SS14 – London Collections: MEN

YMC SS14 Review

At a London Collections: MEN event where we have seen brilliantly avant garde white crop-tops and lace all-in-ones (yes Astrid Andersen, we are taking about you) it comes at quite a shock to see something wearable walking down the catwalk. Refreshingly, this is what we saw at the YMC showcase, held at the British Fashion Council’s show space: The Old Sorting Office. Typical of the brand, tailoring was given a relaxed rebirth – coming in a natured-inspired palette with touches of animal print. FashionBeans favourites included the oversized polka dot tees; a style we expect to see all over the high street come next summer. The utilitarian backpacks also caught our eye, which came in navy and plum, complete with cool zip detailing. Slightly larger in scale than what is currently seen on the backs of men across Britain, we are already championing the oversized backpack as a key accessory trend for SS14. Soft Linens were the fabric of choice – often delicately embroidered in an oddly utilitarian way, which was a most welcome motif. We also loved the punk-inspired muted leathers thrown into the mix. Whilst classic and wearable is all well and good, it was actually an interesting cape that shot straight to the top of our ‘lust list’. With a distinctively utilitarian feel, it was a more masculine take on what has become a prominent womenswear trend over the past couple of years. Overall YMC lived up to their reputation for producing contemporary work wear with a playfulness and maturity that would be becoming of any London gent.
