HyperGrand 01 Nato Watch
HyperGrand Debut 01 Nato Watch Collection
Wristwear newcomer HyperGrand has had its first taste of the UK market with the 01 Nato watch. The brand’s debut on our shores features a unique strap invented by the British military. The innovative construction allows the strap to be swiftly removed and replaced without the use of tools. Twelve interchangeable straps have been made available by the brand, to be used with any of the nine watch designs on offer. HyperGrand watches are constructed from hardened mineral glass, with double layered dials for easy legibility. Stainless steel casebacks, which are waterproof to 96-feet, house a three-hand mechanism powered by Japanese automatic movement. The modern design is the work of HyperGrand’s founder, Leroy Xavier Zhong. Once a professional mechanical and aerospace engineer, Zhong turned his watchmaking hobby into a lucrative business and now works full time at the firm. Lacking the heritage of mainstream watchmakers such as Rolex or Omega, Zhong opted to create a watch with limitless design possibilities, reflecting an “open road design philosophy – free spirited, undistracted and open-ended”. Although used by the military for many years prior, the Nato strap achieved mainstream popularity after being worn in 1964 by Sean Connery as James Bond. HyperGrand has since been featured in international versions of Esquire, TimeOut and StreetThing. Each 01 Nato watch retails for £99, with additional straps priced at £30 each. The collection is available from ASOS, Wellgosh, StreetCasuals and other stockists.
